Eye suck

Grumpy.

I don't know what the hell is wrong with me sometimes.

I stayed up waaay too late last night (playing with my new webcam). As I was getting ready to go to bed, I did my usual contact lens removal/cleaning routine. As is my habit, I plugged the sink so that if I dropped the contact, it wouldn't go down the drain. And of course, I dropped my left contact last night.

So what do I do? Without thinking, I unplugged the sink with my contact still floating around in the basin. I quickly realized what I did, I immediately plugged the sink back up, but it was too late.

Since this is my only pair of contacts & I no longer have vision insurance through work, I got desperate. I tinkered with the idea of undoing the pipe underneath the sink & spent 15 minutes cleaning out the cabinet under the sink. (I had done something similar once before & I was actually able to retrieve it out of the gross pipe.) I dug out Yoshi's wrenches and tools and stuff and I was able to undo one portion of the pipe. But when disgusting black water started to come out of it, I decided that even if I could undo the other side, I really, really didn't want that contact back in my eye again. (By now, it was approximately 2:00 am.)

Then I spent 20 minutes looking for my DKNY glasses that I haven't worn in months. I tore up our newly cleaned house looking for it, to no avail. I went to bed worrying about how I was going to see when I woke up in the morning.

This morning I woke up and remembered I had been carrying my glasses around in one of my other purses & sure enough, they were there. (Incidentally, I also found the camera I hadn't been able to find in weeks there.)

And I just got off the phone with my eye doctor's office. They won't reorder my contact for me if it's been over a year since my last exam (it has).

So now I have to pay (out-of-pocket) for an exam, a contact (maybe two) and I have to figure out how I'm going to be able to take time out of my busy work schedule to do it.

Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr.

Have you tried Costco for an exam and contacts?

Posted by: OutOutBlogger at July 1, 2003 10:20 AM

I would try Costco, but it takes too long to get an appointment with Dr. Nishida.

Besides, I really, really like my current doctor.

That is the number one reason why I will never wear anything other than disposable lenses. It's too easy to tear them or accidentally throw them away and stuff like that -- it's a big help to know that I have a new pair of lenses handy. That does suck for you, though...I hate it when there are unexpected expenses.

My astigmatism is so bad, I have to have my lens special ordered. I cannot wear soft/disposable lenses. :(

Doh that sucks. *hugz*

I don't wear glasses, but I remember my mom loosing her contact down the drain a couple times. They always took the sink apart and then she cleaned it really good.

I been there done that so many times...I had really bad eyesight and I was just one number away from not being able to wear disposable soft contacts. I finally got the courage to get lasik done and it's great....now it's been like over tow years and I am still paying for it but it's great. :o)

That sucks!

I gave up contacts years ago. Too much friggin trouble.

God damn eye doctor nazis! I have really bad astigmatism too and tried the whole contact thing. I remember one time I considered getting colored contacts...what a joke. They would've cost like $200per contact(=$400 for a pair non-disposable). And who decided to make a freggin' piece of plastic so expensive anyway. I have an idea, maybe you could woo an unsuspecting employee and take advantage of their discount.

Ah! You are having a crappy week too, eh? Woo hoo! *high fives you*

Wanna form a club?

"Crappy week club"

We'll be snarky with everyone, our week will be our justification! :D

So sorry about the loss of your lense. I was thinking, though...you know you can go to your regular eye doctor and then take the prescription to a cheaper place. There have been a lot of coupons in the Sunday paper lately for some wierd places, like Sears, Sam's Club (Costco?), etc., that offer 2 for 1 or half off. Maybe you could call around and see if you could pinch some of the cost off the total. You definitely need a backup pair, though.

sorry about it, i did lose one pair just like that... and what d'ya know? eye exam just expired too :(

Might want to call 1-800 contacts or go to 1800contacts.com (think that's the url). They'll give anyone anything, hehe.

Try 1800CONTACTS. I used to order from them when I wore contact. You just tell them the prescription and they can overnight them.
