My Day Off, Roomba, Tuesday
Happy Tuesday!
Picture of the day!

New Roomba! Frys, for whatever reason, had a clone of my dead robot for next to nothing - $75.99. Better yet, it was refurbished (which is how I prefer to buy electronics) and uses the same hardware as my old one. Winner!
Late post, as I'm off again today. Spent the morning at Pechanga, losing at poker (but playing well), losing at the card tables, but then winning at craps for a near-break even day. Came home, checked in, and then went to South Coast Plaza to do some kitchen supply shopping. Tomorrow, back to work, so the posts should be back on track. Have a fantastic day!

Great Day, Glen Ivy, Monday
Happy Monday!
Picture of the day!

A sign advertising "Fruits and Vetetables". I laughed.
No time for writin' today - I'm on a mini vacation, and the Girlfriend and I are going to Glen Ivy for the day. Yeah, life is hard.
I'm off tomorrow too, but will likely be around the house. Have a great day!

Weekend Plans, Newspapers, Weird Blue Day, Cupcake Post, Tax Refund, Friday
Happy Friday!
Picture of the day!

My strange daughter.
If you're a California resident and you were wondering when your state tax refund would finally come through, you might want to check your bank account - both me and The Girlfriend got ours this week. Thanks, California, for giving me my money!
Yesterday's promised cupcake post is now up at TofuFighting.com. I like the pictures.
It's a weird day for me - I bought shirts yesterday, and the new one I'm wearing today is light blue. That's quite a few shades off my usual black. I've decided it's time for some "new" clothes (they're new to me, at least).
There are newspapers blowing off the top of the parking structure (outside my office window) and flying around in the mini wind tunnel between the buildings. It's quite neat.
Any plans this weekend? I've got tomorrow mostly to myself (and the kid). What's happening?

Deadline, Doll Heads, Family Guy, Cupcakes, Thursday
Happy Thursday, my friends!
Picture of the day!

My vanilla cupcakes with citrus frosting. I didn't do this with most, but I cut this one in half to show the "filled" variety I made.
So, cupcakes. I'll have a post up at TofuFighting.com soon, but I've got some, if you're around. They're here at the office, and I might do a lunchtime meet 'n eat - watch my Twitter account for more.
If you like Family Guy and Star Trek: TNG, you're gonna be all about this episode. I laughed out loud. Airs this Sunday.
So, you have any doll heads? I need 6-10 for an art project I'm doing. If they can easily be made to look like fairies, even better. Inquire within.
I'm on deadline today, and gotta get to it. Have a great one!

What's New, Cupcakes, Fail Whale, Hot Office, Burrito-Based Economy, Hump
Hump Day!
Picture of the day!

Ken and The Girlfriend, New Year's 2006-2007
I found out this morning that there are no google results for the phrase "burrito-based economy". It's time to change that, isn't it? UPDATE: Google loves me and indexes me so quickly that this post is now the only result for "burrito based economy". Winner!
It's about 90F in my office this morning - the air doesn't come on until 10am (when I get here), so it starts out hot. It's the curse of my big east-facing picture window.
I've been getting a lot of Fail Whale over at twitter this week. I can only imagine they've been growing a lot in the last few months, but still...
Made vanilla cupcakes last night, and they turned out pretty well. I'm thinking I'm going to top them with a lemon buttercream frosting.
What's new?

Beautiful Day, Allergies, Heroes, Danica McKellar, Maple Crunch Ice Cream, Tuesday
Happy Tuesday!
Picture of the day!

Monterey critters.
Made maple crunch ice cream this morning (the cream needed to be used), and it turned out very well. Read More at TofuFighting.
TV's Winnie Cooper, Danica McKellar, got married this weekend. In addition to being my age during formative years and smokin' hot now, she's also an accomplished author and total math nerd. I don't think I ever had a chance.
"Heroes" was awesome last night. If next season can be something other than "being chased" or "end of the world future", I think it'll rock.
Allergies are still attacking, but hopefully they're in check.
It's a beautiful day out there - get out an enjoy it!
March 23, 2009
Thanks, D&D, AT&T, Berry Party, Allergies, Hello
Hello friends!
Picture of the day!

The clear, blue desert sky on the way to Laughlin. This was a "never viewed" picture in my photostream.
It's Monday. I'm having my ass kicked by my allergies - I ran out of my generic Zyrtec, and Costco no longer sells it, so I had to get some on the grey market (Amazon) to avoid paying $0.50/pill. Alas, it won't be here for a few days.
Otherwise, I'm feelin' pretty good today. I finally got some sleep this weekend, and got a lot done otherwise. I also finally got to try the Miracle Fruit berry - the party was great, but the berry was underwhelming. Alas, such is life. We'll try it again some time with some local berries (these were east coast, mail ordered), so we'll see if there's a difference.
Hey AT&T: Your website is really disjointed and hard to use, especially if you've got multiple accounts. But messages like "Your login is being verified. Depending on your Internet connection speed, this may take a few minutes for this process to complete" just make me feel dumber. Did you forget to remove that when 1999 rolled around and you updated the website?
My character very nearly got himself killed twice in our last encounter, and I'm very excited by this - usually my guy just sits in the back, yells out amusing quips, and fires magic without much risk of getting hit.
OK friends, that's all. Thanks for reading!

Weekend Flavor Tripping, Ads, Boring, Maple, Springtime
Happy Springtime to everyone!
Picture of the day!

A very tiny baby.
I had leftover maple syrup last night, so made maple candy. It turned out OK, but I think I'm going to put it in a rich ice cream - should be a good one.
On the food topic, I'm not sure if it's because I'm boring or just not baking, but comments on TofuFighting.com have dwindled, even with daily posts. Come say hello!
I'm very strongly considering just getting rid of the ads here. They'd be worth if it they brought some money in, but yeah - not so much.
What's going on with you? I'm flavor tripping tomorrow, and very excited. Happy weekending!

Mi Amigos, Bay Area Trip, March Madness, Car, Soup, Thursday
Happy Thursday!
Picture of the day!

Ice. Sequoia.
Packed this soup for work this morning. Left it on the counter. Sigh.
Back in the office today, and my car is workin' just fine.
Can't say I care about March Madness. It's harder to ignore than a lot of other sporting events because a) it lasts 3 weeks and b) it's culturally acceptable to gamble on it at work. I'm a bigger gambler and game player than most everyone else I know - if you want to gamble, just say so. Don't hide it.
We still haven't decided for sure if we're doing a bay area trip in April. I guess we should probably get on that, huh?
Anything interesting happening this weekend for you, mi amigos?

Thanks, Phone Problems, TofuFighting Inspiration, OC Atheists, Car, Good Day
Good day to you!
Picture of the day!

Mmm. "Drink".
Working at home, as the car is still in the shop. Might be there another day - the radiator they need to replace my broken one isn't in stock yet. That said, it's covered under warranty, so that's a relief. I was also happy when the mechanic told me I've been taking very good care of my car. It's treated me well.
OC Atheists meets tonight. Click for more info. We'd love to have you there!
I've kept up my own end of the "blog every day at TofuFighting.com" agreement, but inspiration is running low. I'm a little iffy about diving head first into the foodie news world (local to OC/LA), and scraping the vegetarian relevant stuff out of there. But I have a feeling my recipes and mini rants are a bit underwhelming. Like all blogs, I think it just needs to find itself. My baking posts are pretty (lots of pictures) and get a lot of response, but they'll make me fat, too. We'll see how things go.
I got very excited last night to find that AT&T sells refurbished cell phones - I could finally get an upgrade with those pesky China issues. But someone (and i'm thinking Apple) has made it extremely difficult to buy them - you can't buy over the phone, and the refurb units aren't available to current customers - only new ones. WTF? All those little pains in the ass are making me look toward the Blackberry Curve or Blackjack II. Thoughts?
UPDATE: Turns out that while I could go into ANY AT&T store and get a new phone, with a variety of discounts, as long as I renew for two years, the refurb phones are a) only available online and b) not available until my current contract is up. Seriously, AT&T, if it wasn't such a bitch to switch, I'd kick you to the curb today.
OK, I feel better. But I'd still like to buy YOUR used phone of some sort. Also, I'd like you to have a great day, and keep on rockin'. Thanks for reading!

Going On, Busy Week, Presidents, Car Service, Green, St. Patty's Day
Happy St. Patty's Day!
Picture of the day!

Katie and her mom, St. Patty's Pi(e) Day 2007.
I'm not wearing green today, mostly because I don't own a single piece of green clothing. The other reason is because I think it's stupid. But mostly the former.
Car's in for it's first service in the nearly 6 years I've had it. I noticed a burning radiator fluid smell on Sunday, and my oil change yesterday confirmed something was amiss. I took the car into a pretty nearby Hyundai dealer, and if the stars align, all the work will be under warranty. We'll know later today...
Obama's visiting Orange County this week, and gonna be on the Tonight Show. That's pretty awesome. A reporter asked today if anyone remembered the last time a president came here - I almost replied with "Hell, Nixon's here right now!". Too soon?
It's turning out to be a busy week. OC Atheists meets tomorrow night, I'm touring South County Outreach tomorrow during lunch, I'm still helping my mom move/unpack, and I have a party Saturday. Good times!
What's going on with you?

How's It Going, Fairy Wings, Private Number, Scratchy, March 16, Monday
Happy Monday!
Picture of the day!

Katie playing with Jesus, last St. Patty's Pi(e) Day.
March 16th is weird - it follows Pi Day and The Ides of March, and is followed by St. Patrick's Day. It needs a little something to make it good and special.
I have a scratchy throat, but I'm pretty sure it's "working in super dusty moving conditions" related. At least I hope it is.
Someone from a "private" number called my cell this morning, but didn't leave a message. I hate that.
If you have some Halloween costume fairy wings, I'd like to buy them from you.
How's it going, readers?
March 13, 2009
Pi Day, Mom's Tomato Sauce, Faire Costume, Flash Game, Friday the 13th
Good day, and happy Friday the 13th!
Picture of the day!

Tree on my morning walk, taken with my camera phone. One of the best camera phone images I've ever done.
Tired - spent too long last night obsessing about a flash game called Castle Clout. It's rather addicting.
The idea for this year's Ren Faire costume is finally solidifying in my head. If it turns out like I'm imagining it, it'll be awesome.
New Tofufighting post - Mom's Tomato Sauce.
On the topic of food, tomorrow is Pi Day - my favorite new holiday of the year, and now official. YEAH! PI(E)!!!!111!!3.14!!!
March 12, 2009
Grand Thursday, Birthday Indecisiveness, Pi Day, Ticking, Workout, Welcome
Good day, and welcome.
Picture of the day!

Waterfall, Yosemite.
1.4 miles this morning, but walked most of it, 'cause I'm lazy and it was cold. Got a lot of toning work in last night, though.
The air vents in my office are "ticking" this morning. It's really rather annoying.
Pi Day is coming up, and I've baked no pies. Gotta get on that.
Also coming up is my birthday. In years past we've had big "Charity Dinners" where people come over, we rent out the clubhouse, I feed everyone, and they donate to charity instead of gifts (or the cost of a meal out). I'm a little uninspired to do the same this year - mostly the "throwing a large party" part (it's a lot of work). Other thoughts? I still want to do the charity thing, just not sure how.
I hope you're all having a grand Thursday. Rock and Roll!

What's New, DST Still Sucks, Calf Muscle, Cupcaking, Hump
Hump!
Picture of the day!

These "rocks" are a carpet (or rug) choice at Home Depot. Seriously WTF.
Cupcaking went well, and we had a few takers. I still have more cupcakes, though, if you'd like to arrange a lunchtime exchange. They're still good and moist, and should remain that way for today and tomorrow, at least.
Last night my calf muscle started really hurting, just while walking, but my late last night it was better enough for me to do some good stretching. This morning I walked/ran my 1.4 miles, so I'm happy the injury seems temporary.
I'm still not liking Daylight Saving Time, regardless of the fact that it's still light out when I leave work. These mornings are kicking my ass.
What is new, my friends?
March 10, 2009
Happy Tuesday, Howard The Duck, Watchmen, Cupcake Meet and Eat, Birthdays
It's Tuesday! Happy Birthday to Jen and Sharon today!
Picture of the day!

Katie, vacuuming. What a weird word, "vacuum". Two "U"s? Really?
Want a cupcake? We'll be at The District in Tustin starting around 8pm, in the courtyard in front of the AMC movie theaters. We'll either be at one of the round cafe tables, or in one of the couch-fireplace deals they've got there. For more info, check out TofuFighting.
Finally finished "Watchmen" (the book) last night. It's good. Maybe not as good as my geek brethren lead me to believe, but I liked it. I think a rereading in a few months will certainly be beneficial. I still prefer Sandman, though...
Some Wikipedia link surfing took me this morning from Watchmen to Howard the Duck - a film I haven't seen in 20 years. I remember it being strange, but I wonder if it's as bad as everyone's saying it is. Might be time for some netflixing.
That's all for today. Happy Tuesday!

That's All, FBI Dude, Server Move, DST, Cupcake Meet and Eat, Monday
Happy Monday!
Picture of the day!

Sunday's cupcake project - carrot cupcakes with cream cheese frosting. There'll be a post up on tofufighting soon.
Speaking of the above cupcakes - if you'd like one, I'm holding a "meet and eat" in central OC (somewhere, not sure where yet) today around 1pm - I'll go to lunch and take the cupcakes with me, and everyone who wishes they could get one when I advertise, only to be foiled by my cupcakes being in my office, will have the chance. Might also do it tomorrow. Email me (or get a hold of me in some other way) to rsvp and get the location!
Hey, Daylight Saving Time: I hate you.
My server move is mostly complete - if you're reading this, you're reading the new site. If you're not reading this, then I'm not sure why I'm typing it. There's still some stuff to do on the back end, but it's good to finally have it over with. If you notice anything weird with the domains I host (mine or yours), let me know.
Some dude walks up to me as I'm leaving for work this morning, and asks where he can find the community's office. I tell him there isn't one on site, but we have a property management company in Irvine. I ask him what he's looking for, and he says he's with the FBI, trying to confirm a residence. Um...FBI, you should be able to better figure things like this out. Just sayin'.
That's all for today. Have a fantastic Monday!

Rockin' and Rollin', Busy Weekends, Tax Refund, Tofufighting, LA Fitness Sucks, THFSMIF
TFSMIF!
Picture of the day!

The grounds at the Huntington.
Went to LA Fitness near my house today to get a trial pass, and see what kind of deal they could get me. I started the conversation with the guy saying "This club is very close to my house, and I really want to work out here, but 24 Hour Fitness has a $300/2 years ($12.50/month) deal - can you get close to that?" He looks for a while, and offers me $29.99 a month (for one club, compared to 24hr's most clubs), and a $75 enrollment fee (compared to no enrollment at 24hr). I tell him thanks, but I'll just look around the club a while. He calls me on my way to work to tell me about the great deal he just found out about - no enrollment fee, but $34.99 a month, again just for the one club. I tell him again about the 24hr deal, and that I'm willing to drop a few hundred and sign up for a year or two if it means a better deal. His comeback? "We don't have anything like that". I know where I won't be working out...
New TofuFighting post - Sneaky Tofu and Cheese Stuffed Shells.
Dear California: I'd really like my tax refund now. kthx.
Lots of busy weekends coming up - helping my mom move, a few parties, and before I know it, it'll be birthday time. I still don't know what I want to do this year. Thoughts?
Have a fantastic weekend, my friends. Keep on rockin' and rollin'!

What's New, Prop 8 Optimism, TofuFighting, Exercise, Hot Office, Today
Today is March 5, 2009, the 64th day of the year.
Picture of the day!

Looking down from my upstairs hallway.
It's hot in my office. But since "huge picture windows with an expansive eastern view" is the reason, I can't complain much.
Ran a lot of my 1.4 miles today, and did some working out with my new weights when I got home. Yeah - that's what I've been missing. I kicked my ass this morning.
Inspired, I'm going to try to post 5 times a week to TofuFighting, as well as here. Wish me luck.
Prop 8 hits the courts today. I'm optimistic.
What's new with you, gentle readers? Have a great day!
March 04, 2009
A test for you.
I'm testing my move to my new server. Let me know if you notice any issues!
Thanks, Stupid Physics, Used, Ads, Strange Shaking, Feelin' Good, Hump
Happy hump day!
Picture of the day!

Katie and some beasts.
Feelin' pretty good, if tired - once again, I got about 6 hours of sleep. I blame the dryer that didn't dry my clothes and required another dollar and another hour to get the job done. The internet is not innocent in this either. I've got coffee, though, and plenty to do - I'm ready to go.
I did not feel any strange shaking or rattling last night, but lots of other people did. I'm thinking sonic booms, or possibly aliens.
So what's everyone think of the ads? If you're using any sort of ad-blocking software, you (of course) haven't noticed them - they in the left sidebar, search page, and now in the RSS feed. I realize nobody really likes ads, but I'm testing to see if they help pay the bills (so far - not so much). Let me know if you have issues.
I'm still looking for your used (but good condition) iPhone (or newer Blackberry), tiny digital camera, flat panel televisions and hand weights. Stupid child labor.
Oh, and stupid physics made me spill my coffee this morning. "Stupid" can be a fantastic adjective when used correctly.
Happy Wednesday, my friends and neighbors. Thanks for your comments!

Responsible, Sleep, Kindle 2, Math Holidays, Tuesday
Welcome to Tuesday!
Picture of the day!

Funky fungus, at the SD Zoo.
Various nerd sources online reminded me that today is Square Root Day, as 03 (March) X 03 (the date) equals 09 (the year). The geek in me says that's a stretch, but I'm good with most every math-related holiday. Speaking of such things, just 11 days until Pi day!
So, this Kindle 2. It's nice and everything, but $360 is steep, man. Steep.
I'm working on day 5 of 5-6 hours of sleep per night. Not caring for the side effects, either. Gotta get my ass to bed earlier tonight.
I'm finally done with a busy week of events that required me to be responsible and stuff. Not that I'm not usually responsible, but I was doing stuff that other people were counting on. It's kinda nice to be back to the regular ol' responsible. With that, have a great day!

Day off Recap
Happy Monday!
Picture of the day!

Zzyzx and sky, on the way home today.
Sorry for the late update - I woke up in Nevada without a computer.
I had been toying with the idea of going to Primm as part of my day off, but between having obligations here at 2:30PM, and the Girlfriend having had the baby all day Sunday, I decided, at first, against it. But after reworking the numbers and being told that the Girlfriend and baby would be fine without me, I left - directly from Fry's - at 6:15 last night, without my computer, luggage, or anything that wasn't in my car. I didn't want to waste the half hour to come home and get everything, especially since I was already on the way. I had a change of clothes in the car, so that was taken care of too.
As I said on Twitter last night, impromptu Sunday night road trips are good for the soul.
Otherwise, it's been a good day off. And now it's gonna continue. Have a great day!
