I happened, quite accidently, upon the website of McMinnville, Oregon, a city of 25,000 or so people nestled between Salam and Portland, Oregon. It looks so...idealic. I wouldn't be too excited about the 42 inches of rain every year, but the city just seems so new small town perfect. Seems like the kinda place I'd go to write a book or retire.

Alrighty, the camera is back up. It actually didn't make it to the halloween party, as filming in blacklight conditions sucks. You can now enjoy pictures of my messy desk again. Thank you.

Does anyone else wonder why

Does anyone else wonder why we still have time changes? There's not enough sunlight in the evening hours as it is, and someone decides we need it in the morning instead. Shucks to that!

For those interested, the camera will be down until Sunday, after my Halloween party. You'll just have to deal with the current picture of Picaboo for now.

Alright, I'm back, which means

Alright, I'm back, which means the rest of you are too, or you will be shortly. The story so far:

Two weeks ago we switched from a shared server to a private one via my hosting company. It took a couple days for the internet propagation to take place, i.e. for everyone's DNS servers to get updated and realize that michris.com was no longer at the old IP address, but at a new one. This was going well, though www.michris.com was taking people to the new site, but michris.com (sans the www) was taking them to the old site. An alias problem, I thought, one that would fix itself. It didn't. Michris.com started taking folks to the forsite.com homepage (my hosting company), while the www version was still going here. Then other users noticed both were taking them to Forsite, and for 48 or so hours all traffic was being diverted there. I let them know, and they quickly re-updated the servers yesterday. Now we appear to be back up, with michris.com and www.michris.com taking me (and I assume other users) here. Leave a note here if you're expiriencing any other problems, hopefully everything's been ironed out.

Note: forsite.com has been the host for michris.com for the last 5 years - awesome service if you need a large scale server system. If you just want your page hosted, tell me, and I'll do it for you =)

Alrighty folks, looks like things are working again at michris.com. We moved for a mass-hosted server to a private server, which will allow for easier administration and more control over things like hosting, etc. If you notice any errors, please let me know. Thanks.

Alrighty folks, we're moving the domain to the new server, which means things are gonna look funny for a couple hours, especially since much of this page is dynamically generated. Don't mind us...

I'm looking for a way

I'm looking for a way to install a public blog on my page - one any visitor could post to via a text box and submit button on the page. I'm sure I could do it with any of the comment systems, but I want the blog features and archiving, as well as the integration with my current blogs. Does anyone out there with blog expirience know if there Is there a way to do this? I've thought of an email posting via the page, AIM bot submissions, or making a generic team member account. Any other ideas or current similar projects out there? Leave a note. Thanks.

Some updates: I've hooked up

Some updates:

  • I've hooked up the new camera, and set it up so you can click on the image and see a larger image. And since it's no longer the artsy Borgcam, you can actually see things! Amazing!
  • I fixed a problem with the quotes. For the last couple weeks, it's only been cycling 7 of them. Now the whole collection is back. Submit quotes, and if I like them, I'll put them up.
  • Many of you are coming here searching for something, and not finding it. I can't begin to imagine how many people have now seen pictures of me instead of your favorite female celebraties.
  • Leave comments or email me. I love knowing who's here, and why.

    That's it for now!

    Looks like the Borgcam is

Looks like the Borgcam is dead. The what, you say? the Borgcam:

It's the camera I've been using as the webcam on michris.com. I took an old Quickcam, gutted it, put it inside the plastic borg casing, cut out the mechanical eye of the borg, and installed the camera. It was a lot of work, but the cam was old. Now I have my $400 ($899 retail!) Panasonic digital camcorder acting as a web cam. A little bit of overkill, but it's not like I'm using my camcorder all the time, so it might as well get some use. Enjoy!

    Some notes:

  • I'm thinking about going on a small road trip. I'll keep you all informed.
  • Nick Cave rules. The refrain from "Hallelujah":
The tears are welling in my eyes again, I need twenty big buckets to catch them in. Twenty pretty girls to carry them down and twenty deep holes to bury them in...
  • I have ideas for insignifica.org, but I'd like to hear yours. Leave a note or email me.
  • Feel free to join me in #christian-debate on undernet IRC. I'm RevMike, and I'm there all the time. Feel free to chat about anything.

    Ack! My Roadrunner DNS server

Ack! My Roadrunner DNS server died, appearently, and I haven't been able to get anywhere online all night without knowing the IP address. Luckilly, I found this, which lets you convert domain names to IP addresses. Just click on that link and type in whatever you're looking for where it says "blogger.com". There are easier ways of doing this, like a DNS server, but mine's dead, from what I heard. I'm just proud I was able to get back onto ICQ and AIM and surf again.

Damn, I'm excited about halloween. Unfortunatly, I can't give out too many details of what I want to do, as part of the party is the surprise for the guests. But I'm getting all sorts of ideas, and it seems to be a good thing that I'm out of work, as I'll need a lot of time for some of these things...

    Some notes:

  • It's October. Happy October.
  • Look for the new cam up very soon.
  • I'm in the process of getting a new server setup. If you're looking for hosting, I'll give it to ya at $5 a month. Just email me.
  • If I know you, and you'll be in the Southern California area the last weekend of October, email me.
  • I'll soon be setting up my newest domain, insignifica.org. I'm thinking interactive digital art. Provide suggestions.

That's it for now. Leave thoughts. Thanks.
