As soon as I put
As soon as I put up my new page a few months ago, I started getting hits from search engine bots. When they noticed I updated the page at least once daily, they kept coming back. Now it's paying off. If you go to google and type in "Bill Ripkin" (a baseball player of days past), my site comes up forth, because I referred to him ages ago. I also got a hit from someone looking for a napster chat room. Hopefully some of these people are staying and reading =)

Something I've never understood, and
Something I've never understood, and always disliked, has been lobbying. Why is it ok for groups with a lot of money to "educate" and "inform" politicians about issues, basically bribing them? Why don't more people have a problem with this? It drives me crazy.

I did very well on
I did very well on Wheel of Fortune yesterday - $7,200 well. I had $2,000 going into the last round, and one freak guess bagged me an additional $5,200. I didn't get to the final round, however, Blythe had over $35,000 in cash after the regular rounds were over - I didn't have a chance. Not a bad showing, however. You can watch on March 22nd on your local station.

Been kinda absent lately. Busy busy week...Got back from Santa Cruz, went to Six Flags Magic Mountain for a friend's birthday on monday, finished my Strat-o-matic baseball season (with the league championship) tonight, spending tomorrow night in Los Angeles, and I'll be taping an episode of Wheel of Fortune on Friday. Going to a public garden on Saturday, and family obligations on Sunday, right before a new work week. Should be fun. Some links:

I'm sure there's no correlation here, but I find it amazingly entertaining:
FIRESTARTER
As the result of a top-secret government experiment, a young couple gives birth to a pyrokinetic daughter — a cherubic little blonde who can set anything aflame at will. When the government sets out to capture the girl for study, it's up to her father to expose the conspiracy behind her alarming psychic abilities. This explosive thriller, adapted from the best-selling novel by Stephen King, stars Drew Barrymore, David Keith and George C. Scott.
Airs Sunday, February 18, at 9PM ET/PT
From Yahoo! news:
Drew Barrymore's Los Angeles Home Damaged by Fire
LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - The home of actress Drew Barrymore and her fiancé, Canadian comedian Tom Green, was badly damaged in a fire early on Sunday, but no one was injured, the Los Angeles Fire Department said.
It's sad, it's horrible, and it's the funniest coincidence I've seen in a long time.

Some neat links:
This is a rather old article, but fascinating nonetheless. I've always thought of this as a joke.
I saw this on Slashdot, and found it quite interesting. Take a read.

When I think of fairly useless things, I probably wouldn't have thought of this. But now I will.
Heh...my bank, Wells Fargo, names
Heh...my bank, Wells Fargo, names their computers after the the names of the Dax symbiont hosts from Star Trek: Deep Space Nine. I saw Kurzon a few days ago, and figured it out, and someone from Ezri visited today. I find that amazingly entertaining. (I have an unnatural love of Star Trek - I taught a class at the University of California on the subject of Star Trek in Popular Culture - a real class with papers and finals and class credit.)
Today's my last day in Santa Cruz - driving back tomorrow to wonderful SoCal. I got a call from the good folks at Wheel Of Fortune - I tape a week from today, the 23rd of February. The show should air around the end of March. I'll keep you all updated.

Kansas has finally come to
Kansas has finally come to it's senses and reversed the anti evolution decision. I can't believe, in this day and age, that Christians won out for a while regarding teaching science in school. From the article:
"The psuedo-Christians and the atheists are in charge. It's a religious war,'' [Tom Willis, director of the Creation Science Association for Mid-America] added.
Yeah, damn, watch out for those atheists with their "logic" and "separation of church and state".
The whole thing makes me sick. Literally. I'm glad Kansas at least partially came to it's collective senses.
You know what's amazing to
You know what's amazing to me? Our technologically amazing society still uses pounded metal to transfer data and perform computations. Copper? Silicon? For chips, I kinda understand - you need a medium to work with. But data transfer? There are metal wires in my house, and my computer uses them to talk to other computers. METAL. It's like we're in some friggin' pre industrial society. We can be using light, or modulated radio waves. But we use the same stuff we make water pipes out of . Our grandchildren will laugh at us.

Here I am, in beautiful Santa Cruz. The place of my schooling. The home of my company's office. A working vacation, if you will. My boss likes me to come up here (it's about 350 miles north of my home) every few months to touch base, meet new hires, etc. So here I am. But since I went to school and lived here for 4 years, I get to see friends and places I haven't seen in a while. Little things have changed - I've only been here once in the last 9 months - but most things are remarkably similar to what they were before. I guess that's the way it goes.

I have few genuine fears in this world. Thunderstorms, for no good reason, are one of them. Anyone know any good methods to rid myself of silly phobias?

Tonight is what it means
Tonight is what it means to be young...
Life is good tonight. I'm trying to decide what I want this site to be. I'm not getting too many visitors (except for inktomi, who's been going crazy indexing me...not sure why). First and formost, this site is for me, so that's what counts. But I'd like it to be entertaining, too. I think thoughts, links to things I find interesting, and the occasional humor are the way to go. Oh, and if you've never listened to it, check out "Tonight is What It Means To Be Young" by Fire Inc. on the "Streets of Fire" soundtrack. Amazing song (that link doesn't work in Netscape, only IE. Sorry folks).

Reminders to myself:
1. Let everyone know again about Jessy's blog. It makes me happy. Maybe I'll put a "blogs I read" link up on the main page.
2. Write more. I say this all the time. You! Yeah, you. You need to remind me to write. Contact me online (links are to your right -->), and tell me to write. Thanks.
3. Find more quotes for my main page. Now that I have the quotes blogger, I have no excuse to update. Blogger is very customizable.
There were other things. Damn. Oh well. Until later.

Current Obsession: John Edward. John
Current Obsession: John Edward.
John Edward is a psychic who "speaks with the dead", and has a show on the Sci-Fi network. I don't believe in ghosts or an organized afterlife, but Edward's probably capable of making me believe. Imagine ghosts playing charades with Whoopi Goldberg's character from the movie Ghost, and you'll get an idea of how he communicates. If it's real, this man can do amazing things.

Well damn. I've been updating
Well damn. I've been updating this blog on Netscape (my preferred browser), and used IE for the first time tonight here to do some work. My god, it's a better interface. All sorts of little things make it prettier, more functional, and less buggy. Buttons to automatically add code snippets are the neatest thing...I'm so used to NS that I forget that IE has a lot of non-standard features. Anyway - updated the page in a way no one but me will notice - added a new blog to handle my random quotes. Had to do all sorts of configuration to adapt the template to my data file, but it all works now, and updating the quotes page is much more simple.
Enough of that. Have some links:

The only bad part about
The only bad part about watching Wheel Of Fortune for practice is that when someone wins, it makes me really anxious to get on the show, and I won't likely be on for at least a few months. I could really use the cash, or a car, and I've been waiting for my national TV debute for a LONG time. =)

Charity feels good. I really
Charity feels good. I really enjoy having money for that reason. There's plenty of groups that could use your money. May I suggest UNICEF or the Freedom From Religion Foundation?
Thought of the week: Even if I believed in the Christian God, how could I, in good conscious, worship something all powerful that allows people (including children) to suffer through torture, pain, disaster and other Very Bad Things?
